where it all began
Carter Lane Homes is a family-run company led by husband-and-wife team James and Marcy. Inspired by their love for the Oregon Coast, the pair have built an ambitious business dedicated to developing sustainable, affordable, and high-quality homes across Oregon.
“We have always loved the Oregon Coast and visited often with our dog, Stella. We dreamed of having a place nearby so we wouldn’t need to travel up from Portland every weekend, but we struggled to find something that was both high-end and affordable. That’s when the idea to create our own place was born.
Our first project, Tunnel Rock Retreat, became a collection of two luxury container homes. We wanted to create more than just a comfortable space – we envisioned a unique haven where people could escape the pace of everyday life. A perfectly sized retreat, thoughtfully designed within a container home.
From there, things quickly grew. Although we were new to property development, we loved what we created at Tunnel Rock and the process behind it. It inspired us to offer the same opportunity to others — sustainable, affordable, and high-quality living.”
What’s Next?
James and Marcy expanded their development journey after acquiring a new plot in Oceanside, Oregon. With a vision to create unique, luxurious homes that remained affordable, they went on to develop three new properties on the Breezee Lane site.
“We’ve made mistakes and learned a lot along the way, but that’s all part of the process. In the end, we achieved exactly what we set out to do — building three incredible homes, delivered on time and, most importantly, on budget.”
So, what’s next for this growing team?
“Affordable homes are becoming increasingly rare, not only on the Oregon Coast, so we’ve turned our focus inland toward Portland. We’re very excited about our next project — a five-cottage cluster development. The project is already well underway, and we’re committed to continuing our mission of delivering unique, high-quality homes across Oregon.”
